Cutting Government Waste

We need to cut waste and demand more accountability from our state government. Just like a company must manage costs to serve its customers efficiently, we must use Tennessee taxpayer dollars wisely. Part of that is reviewing all government programs and departments to examine their productivity and effectiveness.
 
That’s why I sponsored and passed Senate Bill 2023, to create an accountability position within the Department of Finance and Administration called EFFECTs. EFFECTs stands for Efficient, Forward-looking, Focused, Energetic, Competent and Transparent government. It's the kind of government Tennesseans should expect. This will result in cutting waste and eliminating fraud, making sure our government is running as effectively and efficiently as possible. 

 The legislature should bear its share of cost-cutting as well.  I co-sponsored Senate Bill 3650, which will freeze the daily expense reimbursement rate for legislators. During a time when families are determining their budget priorities, a pay raise for legislators shouldn’t be one of ours.
